Farmers are invited to a field day to explore various sustainable practices that could be implemented across different property types.
Coolamon Landcare Group and Murrumbidgee Landcare are set to host the Sustainable Farming Field Day on 15 July across two farms in Coolamon.
Guests will hear from experts about the different practices and approaches for sustainable farm management that can also increase income.
Landcare Group coordinator and field day organiser Annika Brown said everyone was welcome to attend the event, which has been seven months in the making.
“I’m hoping people will see different ideas that they might not have seen before,” she said.
“I want people to have an open mind. There are going to be different speakers that will cater to everyone.
“One speaker might not be up their alley, but the next one might.”
The event was conceived when The Gap farmer Adrian Lindner approached Ms Brown to branch out of the urban landcare and make it more farmer-friendly.
The Field Day will start at Mr Lindner’s farm, where guests will get an overview of his farming practices.
Kevin Chapin from Biodiversity Conservation Trust and Mr Lindner will discuss past and current planting projects.
They will discuss the benefits of certain practices, both environmental and financial.
Sustainable Farms ecologist Richard Beggs will speak about farm dam regeneration and how it can increase farm dam water quality and livestock production and improve biodiversity.
Rob Kuiper from Local Land Services and Forestry will speak about farm forestry and how to implement and maintain forestry on a farm.
The second farm visit will be at Ian Jennings’ property where senior weeds inspector Jeremy Crocker will speak about weed management. He will provide insights into what noxious weeds farmers need to be on the lookout for and what can be done about them.
The day’s final speaker will be Dale Stringer from Drought Hub, who will speak about effectively preparing for drought during good years.
Morning tea will be provided. Guests can bring their own lunch or give a $20 cash donation to Rotary for lunch. Guests are advised to bring their own chair, enclosed shoes, hat, water and sunscreen.
The field day starts at “Lindoris” at 755 East Tooyal Road, The Gap and finishes at “Raywood” at 1074 Rannock Road, Berry Jerry on 15 July from 9 am to 3:30 pm.
