A geographical website read by an estimated 165 million people across the globe each year has rated Griffith one of the eight most underrated towns in NSW.
World Atlas lavished praise on the irrigation town in a list it published this week, describing it as “unique” and “distinguished by its strong Italian heritage and flourishing wine industry”.
“The town’s wine culture is a primary attraction, with acclaimed vineyards such as De Bortoli and Calabria Family Wines offering tours and tastings. These vineyards are not just commercial landmarks but also a testament to Griffith’s rich agricultural history and expertise in viticulture,” World Atlas stated.
“Griffith’s culinary scene is equally impressive, featuring authentic Italian restaurants and cafes that serve a variety of traditional dishes, reflecting the town’s cultural roots. These dining establishments are not only a feast for the taste buds but also provide a glimpse into the town’s soul.”
The online website also said the town was great for history enthusiasts.
“The Griffith Italian Museum is a must-visit. It delves into the stories of Italian migrants and their significant contributions to the town’s development. Similarly, the Griffith Regional Art Gallery showcases local and national art, offering insights into the region’s artistic heritage.”

Griffith’s tourism has long been hampered by its isolation – the town is at least five hours’ drive from the nearest major city. But this is the second time it’s caught the eye of World Atlas, which provides advice for prospective travellers.
In 2024, it highlighted Griffith as ‘ideal for seniors’ and one of the 11 most charming towns in NSW.
But this year, it’s rating as an underrated town put it alongside Bermagui, Berry, Currarong, Echuca, Moama, Eden, Huskisson and Kangaroo Valley.
