Police seek information after 70-year-old cyclist is found dead near Kapooka Army Base

Riverina police are appealing for information following the death of a 70-year-old man near Wagga Wagga.

Police said the man set off for a ride on the bike trails in Uranquinty, about 17 km southwest of Wagga Wagga, at about 1 pm on Sunday, 8 September.

After he failed to return later that afternoon, his family members launched a search, and when they couldn’t locate the man, they contacted the police.

Riverina Police District officers were notified and began a search with assistance from Fire and Rescue NSW officers at about 7:30 pm.

An hour later, his body was found about 10 km south of the Rodham’s Fire Trail, off Rodham Road, between the Kapooka Army Base and Uranquinty.

Police searched the area and located a low-strung makeshift barbed wire fence, which was seized for forensic examination.

A crime scene was established, and an investigation launch into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Following extensive inquiries, police are appealing for public information and anyone who may have visited the Rodham’s Fire trail on 8 September, or the preceding days, to contact Wagga Wagga police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
