A man has been charged with a number of drug and firearm offences in Leeton after police seized a number of items in both Leeton and Yanco.
In May 2024, Strike Force Kilnyana was established to investigate the alleged theft of 15 firearms from a property on Vance Road, Leeton.
At about 9 am on Wednesday (21 August), officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District executed search warrants and Firearm Prohibition Order searches at a property in Leeton. Police seized drugs, a gel blaster Glock pistol replica, gel blaster ammunition, a sum of cash and a cash counting machine.
A 38-year-old male was arrested at the scene and taken to Leeton police station.
At about 9:30 am, during a subsequent search of a rural property in Barker Road, Leeton, police allegedly seized a rifle scope, alleged to be linked to the theft of 15 firearms.
The man was charged with supplying a prohibited drug, possessing an unauthorised pistol, possessing an unregistered firearm, acquiring ammunition subject to a prohibition order and recklessly dealing with proceeds of crime.
The man was refused bail to appear before the Griffith Local Court on Thursday, 5 September 2024.
Following inquiries, at about 10 am on Thursday (22 August), police attended Houghton Road, Yanco, where they found a pelican box located in bushes containing two glock pistol replicas and ammunition. A further search in nearby bushes, uncovered five rifles, ammunition boxes containing large calibre ammunition, and a second box containing firearm parts and ammunition. Subsequent checks revealed four of the five rifles were firearms stolen from the Vance Road, Leeton property in May 2024. The fifth rifle is believed to have been stolen from a car in Wagga in July 2023.
The items were preserved for forensic testing as Strike Force Kilnyana investigations continue. Anyone with information about this investigation is urged to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
