A 27-year-old South Australian woman has been charged with dangerous driving after she allegedly almost caused a collision and refused to stop for police, resulting in a 20 km pursuit west of Darlington Point.
At around 10 am on Friday (10 January), police received a report that a grey Toyota with green P plates had allegedly overtaken a truck on a blind corner of a hill, almost causing a head-on collision with oncoming traffic. The driver of the truck later provided police with dashcam footage of the incident.
Police responded to the job immediately and located the grey Toyota Sedan driving past the BP service station in Darlington Point.
Police approached the grey Toyota and activated their warning signals, directing the vehicle to pull over.
The woman allegedly failed to pull over and kept driving. Police drove up beside the vehicle, observed two occupants in the car and pointed at them to pull over to the side of the road. However, they allegedly continued driving.
Police then engaged in a pursuit of the vehicle.
The police car allegedly attempted to get beside the vehicle and direct the driver to pull over a further two times, but without success.
After travelling about 20 km west of Darlington Point, police pulled in front of the vehicle, slowly putting on the breaks to stop the driver. The woman eventually stopped.
Police exited the vehicle and directed the driver to pull off to the side of the road, which she did before police removed the keys from the vehicle.
Police then spoke to the truck driver, who allegedly showed police footage of the female driver overtaking the truck on unbroken lines on a bend and almost colliding with an oncoming vehicle, forcing the vehicle to go off the side of the road.
Officers then issued the 27-year-old with an infringement notice for dangerous driving and other offences.
