Police are appealing for dashcam footage after a teenager died following a police pursuit near Griffith.

At about 10:55 am last Tuesday (5 May), police were patrolling the Mid-Western Highway, near Sawmill Road, Rankins Springs, about 60 km north of Griffith, when they sighted a Mitsubishi with South Australian number plates.

Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop the Mitsubishi; however, the driver failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

While travelling north-east, the Mitsubishi reportedly crossed onto the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with another vehicle.

The 17-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi died at the scene.

NSW Ambulance treated the 68-year-old female driver of the second vehicle. She was airlifted to Canberra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Police are appealing for anyone with dashcam/mobile phone footage who was travelling on the Sturt Highway or Mid-Western Highway between 7 and 11 am (Tuesday 5 May) in the lead-up to the crash to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
