Police allegedly seize MDMA, cannabis and illegal cigarettes in Griffith raid

A 53-year-old man has been charged with commercial drug supply following an investigation into the alleged theft of firearms in the Riverina.

Police established Strike Force Kilnyana to investigate the alleged theft of 15 firearms from a property on Vance Road, Leeton.

Police said following inquiries, Murrumbidgee Police District detectives conducted a firearms prohibition order on a home in Holmes Crescent, Griffith, at about 12:40 pm on Tuesday (6 August).

A 53-year-old man was arrested and taken to Griffith Hospital for monitoring.

Later the same afternoon, detectives executed a search warrant at the same address following further inquiries.

Police allegedly located and seized a large sum of cash, along with MDMA, methylamphetamine, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and seven cartons of illegal cigarettes.

The man was released from hospital and taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with eight offences, including two counts of hindering or resisting a police officer in the execution of duty, supplying a prohibited drug in commercial quantity, two counts of supplying a prohibited drug, possessing tobacco products – reckless defraud revenue and recklessly deal with proceeds of crime over $5000.

He was refused bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on 26 September.

Investigations into Strike Force Kilnyana continue.
