Multiple agencies are searching for a plane missing in the NSW high country.

A NSW Police spokesperson said emergency services were notified of a missing plane at about 4:35 pm on Tuesday (15 July).

“The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) was notified by Air Services Australia that a plane took off from Victoria, bound for Moruya Airport; however, it never arrived,” said.

An AMSA spokesperson said the plane was understood to have been flying from Wangaratta in Victoria with one person on board.

Its last known position was east of Khancoban in the Snowy Mountains.

A multi-agency search began following the plane’s disappearance.

As of 4 pm on Wednesday (16 July), it has been suspended due to limited visibility and will resume tomorrow morning, weather conditions permitting.

“Today’s aerial search effort, coordinated by AMSA, involved an AMSA Challenger jet, HEMS Ambulance rescue helicopter from Victoria and a Toll rescue helicopter from Bankstown,” they said.

According to the NSW Police spokesperson, it may have crashed about 500 metres off Dargals Trail in the Snowy Valleys.

Officers attached to NSW Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, State Emergency Services, National Parks and Wildlife Service and Snowy Hydro have been involved in the search.

The AMSA Challenger rescue jet and two helicopters – one each from Victoria and Sydney – were also conducting an overhead search.

AMSA Air crews finished searching as of 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

The search will resume tomorrow morning (17 July).

More to come.
