A man and a woman have faced court and had their bail refused following an ongoing investigation into alleged drug importation in the Riverina.
Matiullah Shirzad, 42, and Noela Hornberg, 45, fronted Griffith Local Court on Wednesday (22 November), charged with multiple drug-related offences.
Police said officers from Riverina Police District executed a search warrant at a Griffith home at about 11 am on Tuesday (21 November), where they allegedly seized 1.5 kg of methylamphetamine with a potential street value of around $250,000, cannabis, and electronic devices.
Soon after, Shirzad and Hornberg were arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station.
Shirzad was charged with possessing commercial quantity unlawful import – border-controlled drugs, possessing marketable quantity unlawful border-controlled drug and failing to comply with a digital evidence access order direction and breach of bail.
Hornberg was charged with possessing a commercial quantity of methamphetamine – a border-controlled drug, possessing a marketable quantity and unlawfully importing a border-controlled drug and two counts of possessing a prohibited drug.
Magistrate Trevor Khan set their next court appearance for 18 January 2024.
