A P-plate driver has been charged with driving in a manner dangerous and exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km an hour in Holbook.
At around 2:05 pm on Monday (29 December), NSW Police attached to the Murray River Highway Patrol detected a black BMW X5 allegedly travelling north on the Hume Highway at 186 km an hour.
While officers were attempting to intercept the vehicle, NSW Police allege it was seen weaving in and out of traffic travelling in the same direction without indicating.
While still travelling well in excess of the sign posted speed limit, Police say the vehicle then merged onto the gravel shoulder of the roadway and overtook two vehicles travelling side by side in the same direction, causing a large plume of dust to be thrown into the air.
The vehicle was stopped and the 20-year-old male driver spoken to by an officer.
NSW Police went on to discover that the drivers two younger siblings were also in the vehicle. The driver produced an expired South Australian Provisional Drivers Licence before undergoing roadside drug and alcohol testing. The driver was prohibited from driving the vehicle on P-plates, as it is deemed a High-Performance Vehicle in his home state.
The driver was issued with a Field Court Attendance Notice in relation to exceeding the speed limit by more than 45 km an and driving in a manner dangerous.
Penalty Notices were issued for using a prohibited vehicle, having an expired licence and failing to display P plates. His NSW driving privileges were withdrawn for a period of six months.
No sanctions were applied to the vehicle as the driver is not the registered owner.
