Murrumbidgee Police say they are still receiving reports of unknown offenders in East Griffith and Collina areas attempting to access parked vehicles and houses in the early hours of the morning, between 2 am and 5 am.
“We are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and not leave the vehicle keys or garage remotes in the vehicle,” District Inspector Glenn Smith said.
“Residents should also lock their house doors and windows before they go to bed each night. Police would also ask that if residents do happen to disturb offenders during the night, to immediately contact Griffith police on 6969 4299 or triple zero.
“Locking your car and house doors and windows is a simple deterrent that works. Eight out of 10 homes are entered by thieves via unlocked doors or windows.”
Police encourage residents to adopt the 9 pm routine, which is:
- Lock your house before going to bed
- Lock your vehicle and remove all valuables from it, including keys, wallets and garage door openers
- Turn on alarms and sensor lighting and make sure your CCTV is working
- Report suspicious activity to police
- Look out for your neighbours.
