It’s party time for the kids at your local library these school holidays!
Riverina libraries are hosting VR gaming, laser tag, movie trips, and an after-hours youth lock-in.
“Riverina Regional Library (RRL) is ramping things up. We’ve got a little bit of a party vibe happening,” said RRL marketing and engagement officer Katrina Roe.
“Families looking for some fun these school holidays will be surprised and delighted by the kinds of things they’ll find at our libraries.
“What’s exciting about this is just how innovative the libraries are being to ensure that our kids don’t miss out on things that kids might experience in the big city. Families can rely on the library to provide some fantastic school holiday programs.
“They’ve gone out of their way to do things like offer virtual reality headsets, hire laser tag gear, or book out a whole cinema, all at really affordable prices.”
Katrina said Batlow Library would have laser tag for a whole day, while Temora Library was heading to the movies to see Runt and Tumut Library would host an after-hours Youth Library Lock-in.
“The kids will be locked in the library. The scenario is that the librarians have gone home for the night and you’re stuck there,” Katrina said.
“So, what do you do? Do you, A — select a book and relax for the night, or B — panic? Every choice you make will lead to another option in a choose-your-own-adventure-style experience.
“It will be supervised by library staff — they will be there.”
As part of the RRL school holiday program, Balloonatic Bruce from Balloon Antics is doing seven shows at Bland, Coolamon, Temora, Cootamundra, Gundagai, Howlong, and Corowa libraries.
“Bruce is known as a fantastic entertainer, keeping children of all ages thoroughly engaged in his performances,” Katrina said.
“Bruce is a seasoned performer who knows how to delight and surprise kids with his magic tricks, quirky balloon characters, and hilarious antics.”
And crafty kids who enjoy quiet activities can participate in kite making at Bland, Holbrook, Culcairn, Gundagai, Mulwala, Jindera, Henty, and Batlow libraries.
