With the Wagga Comedy Fest in town and shows selling out fast, you might have thought there couldn’t be much else to see and do this week. If you did, boy, are you wrong, as the regions have decided to put on a show for the first full week of winter.
Beginning this Saturday is the world-famous Griffith Sikh Games which will see competitors and spectators alike travel from across the globe. Ladysmith will be attracting people of all ages to its railway museum this Saturday, while Narrandera will be luring people over with delicious foods at the International Food Fair.
Junee and Gundagai both have their popular markets this weekend, at the licorice factory and Carberry Park respectively.
Meanwhile, in Wagga’s backyard, the always fun Roller Disco will be on again and for those looking for a rare find, the Wollundry Markets are also back.
Or if you’re after a sit down and relax kind of vibe, Forum 6 Cinema has a stacked library of movies showing at the moment.
One thing is for sure, there is plenty to see and do everywhere across the Riverina this week.

With such a stacked roster of movies out, you wouldn’t be criticised if you went two or three times this week. First up is the newest instalment in the Bad Boys franchise with Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which promises to be some of the most fun you’ll have at the cinema this year. Meanwhile, horror fans will get the opportunity to see Ishana Night Shyamalan’s (daughter of M Night Shyamalan) first feature film. For those who missed out on the last couple of weeks, Garfield, Furiosa, IF and Planet of the Apes are all still showing too.

You know it’s winter because Wagga’s annual comedy festival is here again! Although it kicks off on Thursday, there are still plenty of shows to see from Friday through to Sunday with acts including Geraldine Hickey, Lizzy Hoo and Dave Thronton, Mel Buttle, The Gong Show and Wil Anderson. Griffith Sikh Games

Every June long weekend the Sikh community holds a two-day event at Ted Scobie Oval against the backdrop of Scenic Hill in Griffith. Enjoy traditional Indian cuisine throughout the day, soccer, tug-o-war, kabbadi, a wrestling sport originating from the northern part of the Indian state of Punjab, and athletic events for the kids. This popular cultural event attracts thousands of people to Griffith from around Australia and overseas, to compete in and watch the games and enjoy the celebrations.
Saturday
Saturday Night Roller Discos!
When: Saturday 8 June, 7 to 9 pm
Where: Bolton Park Stadium
Cost: $15 entry + $5 skate hire.
Twin City Skate, the largest roller-skating club in NSW, runs regular Saturday night roller discos in Wagga. Think cool tunes, fancy lighting and a giant disco ball. Bring your own skates or hire them at the venue.
Wollundry Saturday Markets
Where: Wollundry Lagoon, Civic Centre Precinct
When: Saturday 8 June, 8 am – 1 pm
Cost: Free entry.
Come along to the Wollundry Saturday Markets held around the beautiful Wollundry Lagoon in the heart of Wagga. Enjoy a walk around the lagoon and peruse the markets. With more than 30 stallholders, including a variety of food purveyors, fruit and vegetables, and homewares, there is much to choose from. There is plenty of room to relax and listen to local musicians while enjoying the outdoor atmosphere. While you’re there, maybe drop in a gold coin to help the Rotary club support the community.
Ladysmith Tourist Railway
When: Saturday 8 June, 10 am
Where: Ladysmith Railway Station, 15 Kyeamba Street
Cost: All tickets $5.
Ladysmith is one of the few stations remaining on the old line. Visit the heritage station and museum, with trikes on display and available for rides on the second Saturday of each month from 10 am to 2 pm.
Special displays and exhibits have been set up in the precinct with many items on loan from Transport NSW including an Edmonston ticket punch machine, electric staff machines, document draws and a safe.
International Food Fair
When: Saturday 8 June, 11 am
Where: Marie Bashir Park, Narrandera
Cost: Various food and drink vendors will be available.
The Narrandera CWA is hosting the region’s very own International Food Fair this Saturday at Marie Bashir Park. Featuring dishes and cuisines from Europe, Asia and Africa, why not try something new or some of your traditional favs made by those who know them best? Come down at 11 am and enjoy a treat for the senses.
