Nine things to do in the Riverina this week (6 - 12 September)

Dancing, bingo and an airshow lead a diverse group of activities going on across the Riverina this week.

Kicking off on Saturday, Bolton Park will be hosting another roller disco event thanks to Twin City Skate, while the Tin-Shed Rattlers will be holding another of their Downside Bush Dances and the fun and excitement of Drag Bingo returns to the Curious Rabbit.

The iconic Temora Aviation Museum will see its popular airshow return with its historical aircraft.

Sunday will see a more relaxed vibe with Wild Vine’s Lazy Sunday offering up a treat as well as the Demonstration Gardens hosting its regular meeting.

Finally, The Junee Licorice Factory Markets will be held this weekend, with the Riverina Producers Markets opening its doors on Thursday.

Two new comedies headline the new releases at Forum 6 Cinemas this week. The first is a sequel to one of the most beloved dark comedies of all time, Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice sees the return of the Ghost with the Most and the Deetz family. After a family tragedy, the Deetz return to their Winter River home and with them, so does Beetlejuice.

Next is a movie called Thelma which sees 93-year-old Thelma Post get duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson. She sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her.

Saturday Night Roller Discos!

When: Saturday 7 September, 7 to 9 pm
Where: Bolton Park Stadium
Cost: $15 – $20 entry + $5 skate hire.

Twin City Skate, the largest roller-skating club in NSW, runs regular Saturday night roller discos in Wagga. Think cool tunes, fancy lighting and a giant disco ball. Bring your own skates or hire them at the venue.

Where: Downside-Shepherds Siding Rd
Cost: Adults $5, kids $3 – cash only event.

Held monthly, the Downside Bush Dance has been running on the first Sunday of each month since 1971. Run by the Tin Shed Rattlers, the Downside Bush Dance is a fun evening for new and experienced dancers alike. New dances each month ensure every occasion feels fresh but with a 70s vibe and aesthetic.

Drag Bingo with Erica D’Hesperus and Rhonda Paradise

Where: The Curious Rabbit, 44 Johnston Street

No longer is bingo the gentle sport of the elderly – at The Curious Rabbit you’ll experience classic bingo with a major twist. Your host will guide you through the game with non-stop comedy and entertainment. Enter as a solo competitor or bring your mates and family. Aircraft Showcase September

When: Saturday 7 September, 10 am – 4 pm
Where: Temora Aviation Museum, 1 Tom Moon Avenue, Temora
Cost: Adult $30, adult (over 65 years) $25, child (3 – 16 years) $15.

The Temora Aviation Museum’s September 2024 Aircraft Showcase will feature all serviceable aircraft from the RAAF 100 SQN Historic Flight Collection at the Temora Aviation Museum, which includes the Supermarine Spitfires, Cessna O-2A, Lockheed Hudson, Wirraway, Tiger Moth, Ryan STM S2, and many more visiting warbirds. At Temora, you can get closer to the action as you witness a themed selection of Australia’s ex-military flying history come alive.

The Demonstration Gardens are held every Sunday.

Demonstration Gardens – Vegetable Swap and Buy

When: Saturday 7 September, 9 am to noon
Where: Corner Shaw and Albury streets, Wagga
Cost: Free entry.

Come to the Demonstration Gardens, bring fruit or vegetables to swap, or purchase fresh vegetables from the community garden. All proceeds go to the community gardens. Held every Saturday morning, weather permitting, it is a great way to support the local community.
