NSW Police are investigating the death of a newborn baby and injuries to a woman and another infant, who were found inside a tent at Wagga beach near the Murrumbidgee River and the CBD on the weekend.

Just after 4:20 pm on Saturday (2 May), emergency services were called to Cadell Place following a concern for welfare.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and located a 37-year-old woman, along with the body of a newborn infant and a second infant.

The woman and the surviving infant were treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, where the baby remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene has been established and police have started an investigation into the incident.

NSW Police say there are no suspicious circumstances regarding the death.
