Fireworks are set to fill the sky over Lake Albert once again this New Year’s Eve, with Wagga Wagga City Council (WWCC) announcing the return of the popular family event.
Despite no new expressions of interest from third-party organisers for a third year running, WWCC said it remained committed to hosting the lakeside fireworks.
In past years WWCC has offered organisers more than $57,000 for the event, but even with interest from potential organisers waning, WWCC has promised an explosive celebration.
For 2025, WWCC will host a 15-minute display at 9:30 pm to give every member of the family the best opportunity to stay awake and enjoy the event.
“Council’s really excited to announce this year that the fireworks display for New Year’s Eve, we’ll be back at Lake Albert, so we’re encouraging everyone to come and enjoy a fireworks display,” WWCC events coordinator Emma Corbett said.
“Bring your friends, family, pack a picnic and yeah, head around the lake and enjoy some fireworks.
“We will be bringing back our food vendors from last year. So if you don’t want to bring your own picnic, you will be able to purchase from one of the vendors. They’ll be located at Apex Park.”
Last year the event attracted more than 10,000 people to the lake’s foreshore, with this year’s event expected to see a similar number.
Residents are advised there will be changed traffic conditions around Lake Albert, including on Eastlake and Lakeside drives and Lansdowne Avenue for the duration of the event.
“We are once again expecting large crowds to bring in the new year, which is really exciting,” Ms Corbett said.
“While the lake is a fantastic spot with plenty of open platforms for viewing, we do acknowledge that parking may be a challenge. There will be a lot of cars in the area, and traffic can be a little chaotic, so we are encouraging people to carpool, walk, ride their bike or use any other type of transport to get to the lake.
“For those who do intend to drive to the event, please note that detours, traffic management and other appropriate safety measures will be in place.
“Council encourages anyone planning to drive to the event to allow extra travel time in order to take those traffic changes into account and find parking.”
