The fourth instalment of Temora’s Bectric Rocks concert is in its final stage of preparation for this year’s performance.
The concert will be held on 15 March at the historic Bectric Recreation Reserve.
The Bectric Hall is 120 years old and the country’s last-standing pise hall (which uses rammed-earth building techniques), and part of the funds raised will go towards maintaining the historic venue.
“We are excited to announce our very own song, Bectric Rocks, which incorporates Bectric, the hall, and mental health,” said event organiser Debbie Coddington.
“It is in the final stages of being recorded and will be included on an album by The Little Riverina Band, titled “Riverina Breathing”.
“It will be released as a single and video in February.”
Mrs Coddington came across the young talent and asked if they would be interested in helping her with compiling the lyrics and the music for the song Bectric Rocks.
“The three young siblings jumped on board without hesitation,” Mrs Coddington said.
“This great little band has three members from the same family: Esther (14), bass guitar and vocals; Benjamin (11), keyboard, drums, and vocals; and Daniel (10), lead singer and guitar.
“I’ve found these kids are not limited by fear or doubts. They just sit down and come up with something quite amazing.”
The siblings have been performing since Christmas 2019. Daniel won his place in the Junior Golden Gig competition in Tamworth in 2024. The band plays rock and country.
The Bectric Rocks concert will see some great talent converge for an afternoon/night musical extravaganza aiming to raise much-needed funds towards the upkeep of the hall and the Temora and District Hospital.
This year’s line-up includes Craig Giles; Lock, Stock, and Bingle; Jen Irvine from Shotgun Wedding; Letitia Payne from West Wyalong; and Rachel Wilton from Wollongong, who is also a teacher at Temora High School.
The concertgoers will also hear from the newly formed band, the Bectric Beatles.
Mrs Coddington said that at last year’s event the crowd was spellbound by the amazing local talent that was showcased.
A mobile stage, hired from the Temora Shire Council, will be used to showcase the acts and provide a safe environment under the shady trees.
As in past years, the Bectric Hall Committee will provide lamb gravy rolls, a barbecue, and icy cold soft drinks for sale, along with Kin&Co (Angela Breust and Team) providing their coffee van with a variety of treats and gluten-free options. Mr Whippy’s ice cream van will also be present.
“People will need to bring their fold-up chairs, their smiles, and their dancing shoes,” Mrs Coddington said.
“It will be an opportunity to catch up with family and friends and to enjoy the serenity of the outdoors in the bush.
“If the weather is fine, the event will be held outdoors; however, in case of inclement weather, it will be held in the hall.”
Camping sites are also available, but these need to be booked well in advance as this is an extra cost, and there is a limit on how many vans are allowed on-site.
The cost for the event is $20 per head, and those under 16 enter free at the gate. A booking for a campsite is $15 per van per night.
Those wishing to book a campsite or the bus are encouraged to contact Mrs Coddington on 0409 898 656.
