A Narrandera woman will face court for allegedly speeding in a school zone and driving while under the influence of drugs with a disqualified learner’s licence and in an unregistered car.
At 8:28 am last Wednesday (27 August), police attached to Narrandera Highway Patrol were conducting stationary speed enforcement of the school zone in Matong, a small town near Narrandera.
Police detected a gold-coloured Holden Commodore sedan travelling at 82 km/h in the sign-posted 40 km/h area. The vehicle was stopped a short distance away.
The driver was a 24-year-old woman from Narrandera. She was unable to produce a licence, but checks revealed that she was the holder of a Class C learner’s licence that was currently disqualified.
The woman was subjected to roadside testing, allegedly returning a positive drug test to methamphetamine. Police also allegedly found a small, clear resealable bag containing small crystals, believed to be methamphetamine, inside the car.
The Commodore’s registration was also expired.
The woman was issued infringement notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 30 km/h in a school zone ($1429 and loss of six demerit points), using an unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on the road ($844) and using an uninsured motor vehicle on the road ($844).
The woman was also issued with a court attendance notice for allegedly driving while disqualified and possessing a prohibited drug. She will appear before Narrandera Local Court in October.
