Narrandera man fronts Wagga court accused of murder following fatal shooting in Ashmont

A Narrandera man fronted Wagga Court on Friday in relation to a fatal shooting in Ashmont on Monday.

Jacob Higgins, 35, was charged with murder, aggravated break and entry and committing a serious indictable offence.

He made no application for bail and will remain in custody until he faces a committal hearing on Wednesday 13 August.

At the committal hearing, a magistrate will determine whether there is enough evidence to proceed to a higher court for trial.

Mr Higgins was arrested on Thursday (12 June) following the fatal shooting of a 37-year-old man.

Just before 3 am on Monday (9 June), emergency services were called to Connorton Avenue in Ashmont (in Wagga) following reports a man had been shot during an altercation.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended and located the injured man; however, he died at the scene.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic officers.

Detectives commenced an investigation under Strike Force Cerventes with assistance from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Following extensive inquiries, officers arrested Mr Higgins at a home on Lady Loch Crescent, in Narrandera, just after 9:30 am on Thursday (12 June).

During a search warrant at the home, police located and seized several clothing items for forensic examination.
