Beyonce-inspired teen musical quartet the Fate Babies will make their Griffith Regional Theatre debut on Sunday, 31 July.
The Murrumbidgee Regional High School Year 10 students will perform at the Grass Roots Under 30s Open Mic competition alongside a host of other emerging artists.
John Samuelu-Kirby, 16, Timote Liu, 16, Jaylan Tia, 15 and Liliana Ah Kee, 15, have their eyes on the main prizes – a recording session at the CAD Factory or a set at A Day in the Orchard festival.
“We are have a really good chance of winning this,” Jaylan said.
“We have been playing together for so long, since primary school. We go to the same church and sing together in a choir. We love singing and we have practiced so much.”
The students, who are of Tongan and Samoan heritage, were informed of the concert by their music teacher Hannah Lonergan.
“She has been such a big support. She is so kind,” John said.
The Fate Babies also paid tribute to their former choir teachers Lisa Sergi and Brooke Dredge, who taught them with care and kept them motivated and to Murrumbidgee Regional High School which has supported them greatly.
The band plays a number of covers from their favourite artists including Beyonce, Harry Styles and Destiny’s Child. They also do original songs, such as Tell Me and Missing You.
“We love to sing about love and emotions,” Jaylan said.
“I get nervous before I go on stage but as soon as I start singing the nerves go away.”
John said the band’s dream was to one day record their own album and go on tour.
