Man facing drug charges refused bail after police seize $25,000 worth of methylamphetamine

A 37-year-old man has been refused bail over alleged drug offences following a random breath test near Albury.

James Kypirtidis fronted Albury Local Court on 22 February, charged with three counts of supplying drugs and seven counts of possessing a prohibited drug.

Kypirtidis did not apply for bail, which was formally refused by Magistrate Melissa Humphreys.

Police said Murray River Highway Patrol officers stopped a car travelling east on the Riverina Highway at Bungowannah, about 16 kilometres from Albury, about 10:15 am on Wednesday, 21 February, for a random breath test.

Officers had reason to search the vehicle and allegedly seized prohibited drugs, including methylamphetamine, with a street value of $25,000.

Kypirtidis and an 18-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Albury Police Station.

The woman was charged with three counts of possessing a prohibited drug and two counts of supplying a prohibited drug.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Albury Local Court on Wednesday, 20 March.

Kypirtidis will return to Albury Local Court at a later date.
