Man dies after caravan fire in Ungarie

A man has died in Ungarie, a small Riverina town near West Wyalong, following a caravan fire.

At about 12 pm on Friday (26 September), emergency services were called to Mackrell Street, Ungarie, following reports of the blaze.

On arrival, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District inspected the scene and found a caravan in flames.

Rural Fire Service officers acted quickly to extinguish the blaze.

A man, believed to be aged in his 40s, sustained severe burns. He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, where he passed away later that evening.

A crime scene was established and NSW Police have commenced an investigation into the incident and are preparing a report for the Coroner.
