A man has been charged over the alleged assault of a teenager in Leeton last weekend.
Police said they were told an 18-year-old man was riding an allegedly unregistered motorbike through the township of Leeton at about 11 pm on Sunday (30 January).
A number of motorists followed the rider before his motorbike and a vehicle collided on Wamoon Avenue.
Several members of the public, including the driver, approached the rider before one man allegedly approached the rider from behind and struck him in the head with a shovel, causing him to fall to the ground.
The rider was wearing a helmet and was not seriously injured.
Officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.
Police said that following inquiries, a 42-year-old man attended Leeton Police station at about 4:45 pm on Monday (31 January) where he was charged with one count of common assault.
The man was granted conditional bail to appear in Leeton Local Court on Tuesday 14 February.
