Adam Mark Perrim, 31, has been charged with domestic violence murder after a 23-year-old woman was allegedly fatally stabbed at a Kooringal home.
Emergency services were called to a home on Ziegler Avenue about 11.45 am on Saturday, 19 September, after reports a woman had been stabbed.
NSW Ambulance paramedics and Riverina Police District officers performed CPR on the 23-year-old woman, but she died at the scene.
Police were told a man had left the property before emergency services arrived.
An 18-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station, but was later released without charge.
Police established a crime scene at the property and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
About 8 pm on Saturday, police arrested Mr Perrim at a home on Menzies Avenue, Kooringal.
He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with murder (DV).
Mr Perrim was refused bail by police and did not apply for bail when he appeared before the Bail Division of the Local Court on Sunday, 20 September.
The court recorded that bail was refused.
Mr Perrim remains in custody and is due to face a brief status hearing at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 18 November.
At a press conference on Sunday, Riverina Police District Crime Manager Detective Inspector Brent Falkiner said investigators had established a strike force to investigate the alleged murder.
He said it was “too early” in the investigation to release further details about the woman’s death.
“There’s a number of inquiries still have to be undertaken, including speaking with her family, which has been conducted,” he said.
Detective Inspector Falkiner said police did not currently believe anyone else was involved in the alleged stabbing.
“We’re not looking for any other items,” he said.
“We believe that everything was located at the scene inside the home.”
Detective Inspector Falkiner said the woman, Mr Perrim and the 18-year-old man were known to each other.
“He [the 18-year-old] had some information that we believed he was at the home that morning, and he’s been released without any charge,” he said.
The Kooringal death was one of three separate suspected domestic violence-related incidents involving women across NSW within about 24 hours.
A 90-year-old woman was allegedly fatally stabbed at a home in Bondi Beach on Saturday afternoon, with a 47-year-old man charged with murder (DV).
Later that night, a 70-year-old woman was found dead at a property near Mole River, west of Tenterfield, after police responded to a reported domestic violence incident.
Police have not suggested the three incidents are connected.
