A tomahawk and knife have allegedly been seized from a man in the Snowy Mountains region.

A NSW Police spokesperson said officers were called to Tumut, following reports of a brawl, at about 10 pm last Wednesday (12 March).

Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended and were told that a 20-year-old man had allegedly been struck on the arm with a bladed weapon by another man.

The man and a group had left the scene before officers arrived, police allege.

The 20-year-old man was taken to hospital in a private vehicle, before being transferred to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established, which police say was examined by a specialist command, and investigations commenced.

Following their inquiries, at about 1:40 am on Monday (17 March), a 22-year-old man was stopped and spoken to by police in Tumut.

The spokesperson said he was subjected to a person search, during which police allegedly seized a knife and a tomahawk.

He was arrested and taken to Tumut Police Station, where he was charged with reckless wounding, armed with intent to commit an indictable offence, committing an s114 offence while having a previous conviction, using a knife in public place-causing person to fear for safety, and affray.

He was refused bail to appear before Cootamundra Local Court and will appear at Tumut Local Court on 16 May.
