A man from the southern Riverina town of Culcairn has allegedly been caught by police drink driving twice in the space of three hours in Griffith.
District Inspector Glenn Smith told Region the alleged incidents occurred on Saturday (21 December).
At 7:08 am that morning, the 24-year-old Culcairn P-plate driver was stopped while driving a white Mazda along Old Willbriggie Road in Hanwood. He was subjected to a breath test and was allegedly found to have Middle Range Prescribed Concentration Of Alcohol, reading 0.113 and a positive result for the illicit drug cocaine.
The vehicle he was driving was also found not to have an interlock fitted or any P plates displayed front or back, which were a condition of his licence.
He was also found to be on bail, on the condition that he would not commit any offences. He was then processed for all these offences and issued with a notice of suspension in relation to his driver’s licence and a prohibition notice in relation to his illicit drug result not to drive for the next 24 hours. He was released from custody to appear before the Griffith Local Court in the future.
At 9:58 am later that same day, police again saw the above 24-year-old man, who they had just released from custody, driving the same white Mazda in a northerly direction along Blumer Avenue at Griffith. The man was again stopped and subjected to a breath test and this time, allegedly registered a Low Range Prescribed Concentration of Alcohol, reading 0.079. The vehicle he was driving was still found not to have an interlock fitted, no p plates, and his bail conditions had not been changed.
He was now also not complying with the suspension notice or notice of prohibition from driving with which he was recently issued.
He was again processed for all these offences and was refused bail appear before the next available court.
