A 50-year-old man will face court in Griffith after he was accused of assault and trying to swipe at his alleged victim’s dog.

At about 7 pm on Sunday (9 November), the alleged victim walked his dog to a Griffith supermarket and tied it up outside, before entering the shop.

Another man seated nearby approached the alleged victim, yelling at him. Officers will allege this man threw a flurry of punches towards the alleged victim, narrowly missing him.

The alleged victim walked back to his dog, with the 50-year-old man approaching him again and allegedly attempting to throw a punch. The 50-year-old then allegedly tried to swipe at the victim’s dog’s head with an open palm.

Police were contacted and attended a short time later and the 50-year-old man was given a move on direction. A statement was obtained from the alleged victim and a short time later the 50-year-old man was issued with a field court attendance notice for common assault.
