Two Riverina men are facing a string of aggravated break and enter charges, with police alleging a spate of early-morning break-ins across the town saw everything from confectionery to seafood stolen from homes and businesses.

Police say the incidents unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday 20 May, 2026, when a number of properties in the western Riverina town of Hay were allegedly broken into. Items allegedly taken included lollies, chocolates, soft drink and frozen seafood.

Following investigations, police executed a search warrant on Wednesday 3 June at a home in Macgregor Street, Hay.

Officers allege they located a duffle bag and shopping bag containing stolen confectionery, along with an imitation firearm. During the search, a 30-year-old man allegedly returned to the property and was arrested at the scene.

A second search warrant was later executed at a home in Moama Street, Hay, where police allege they found distinctive clothing, confectionery wrappers, a mobile phone and antique knick-knacks linked to the alleged break-ins. A replica firearm was also allegedly seized.

In a further development, police attended an address in Hay South at about 12:30 pm on Sunday 7 June, where a 26-year-old man was arrested.
