A new housing estate for those over the age of 50 in Griffith unveiled its range of amenities last week – including the town’s first specialised pickleball court.

Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill is a $120 million gated village on Citrus Road in Collina that aims to provide 150 two- and three-bedroom homes when complete.

Prices start at $515,000 and dwellings can be bought by those aged 50 and above to live in (not investors).

Many residents have already moved in, with construction of more properties continuing.

More than 100 people, including Mayor Doug Curran, Deputy Mayor Scott Groat and Lincoln Place Chairman Nick Collishaw attended an event last week to mark the opening of a new heated indoor pool, bowling green, pickleball court, putting green and community spaces.

A gym and clubhouse featuring a kitchen, bar and dining spaces, a resident lounge, private cinema, craft studio, games and guest hosting room are expected to be completed in 2027.

Lesley Woodbridge, 79, who has lived in the community for eight months, is keen to use the pickleball court.

“I used to play tennis, but this is a smaller court, so I won’t have to run so far and can still keep moving,” she said.

“It’s been great to see the community grow, and it will be even better when the clubhouse opens, with even more spaces for activities to fill our days and connect with each other.”

Aged care nurse and new resident Liane Dawes, 64, challenged her granddaughter Ruby Turner to a game of pickleball on the new court.

“I’ve lived here two months now and I love it,” Ms Dawes said.

“I like the fact that it’s gated and love the community spirit. We had a pizza night just before Easter with the outdoor oven, which was a lot of fun.”

Close friends Yvonne Burgess, 83, and Judee Melville, 76, have bought a block of land and will be joining Ms Dawes soon.

“All my kids have left, so I’m downsizing,” Ms Burgess said.

“I don’t need to have wild parties anymore, well, maybe I’ll have one or two. It’s nice and modern, secure and there’s lots of activities to do hear – my brain is still 30 even though my body is in its 80s, so I want to keep active.”

Close friends Yvonne Burgess, 83, and Judee Melville, 76, plan to move in soon.

Ms Woodbridge said she downsized into a two-bedroom, two-bathroom house at Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill with her dog, Lois Lane, for more safety and security.

“I’m a widow and have been living on my own for 14 years, and the main reason for downsizing was I didn’t feel safe in my house. This community is gated and very secure so I sleep a lot better at night, and I’ve got great neighbours looking out for me too,” she said.

“The whole experience has been positive. I’ve made lots of friends and I’m definitely better off living in this community.”
