A 37-year-old Leeton man has been charged after three motorbikes were allegedly stolen from a Whitton property, with police accusing the driver of using a ute with a bent number plate to avoid detection.
Police allege CCTV captured a white Nissan Navara entering a property at Whitton at about 2:20 pm on Sunday (24 May).
According to police, two men were seen removing two motorbikes from a shed and loading them into the rear tray of the ute. One of the men allegedly started a third bike and rode it from the property.
Police allege the Navara’s rear number plate had been bent to prevent identification.
About an hour later, at about 3:30 pm, police stopped a white ute on Crowes Road at Leeton and spoke with the driver.
During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly found two knives, an angle grinder, grinder discs, a hatchet and a torch.
The 37-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Leeton Police Station, where he underwent a drug test that police allege returned a positive result.
He was subsequently charged with entering enclosed lands, two counts of stealing a motor vehicle, custody of a knife in a public place, failing to comply with P2 licence conditions by not displaying P-plates, obscuring a number plate, possessing housebreaking implements and driving without carrying a licence.
Police refused the man bail.
