A 21-year-old Leeton man allegedly tried to outrun police through neighbouring backyards before officers tackled him as he attempted to climb a wire fence at Yanco.

Police attended a home in Progress Street, Yanco, on 17 August to arrest the man.

Police allege the man exited the premises through the rear door and fled on foot, running through the yards of neighbouring properties.

His escape came to an end when, while attempting to negotiate a wire fence, he was tackled by police and arrested.

Police allege the man was wanted on four outstanding arrest warrants relating to domestic violence, personal violence and traffic offences.

He was taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged in relation to the four warrants, along with breaching an AVO, common assault (DV), and stalking/intimidating.

Police refused the man bail before he appeared before Bail Division Court 5, where he was remanded in custody.

He is due to next appear before Griffith Local Court on 27 August.
