Lancaster Homes’ project Nero in Estella has been crowned the Housing Industry Association’s Riverina Home of the Year.
It took 12 months to develop the plans for the home, with construction starting soon after they were finalised in mid 2024. The build took 11 months, resulting in one of the most impressive new homes in the Riverina.
“We were really happy to have the opportunity to create that style of house, which was made out of concrete,” Lancaster Homes director Baden Lancaster said.
“It was a fantastic challenge for us and we’re really happy with the final results.”
The Nero project marks the second win in as many years for Lancaster Homes, which will compete for the HIA ACT and Southern NSW Home of the Year title.
“It’s one of our big dreams to take a home like this and have it recognised,” Mr Lancaster said.
“A lot of the other builders around town are doing some really great work, so to take a home like Nero and have it showcased at the ACT and Southern NSW awards is quite a humbling experience.
“We are obviously stoked to win, but we were very, very humbled as well.”

In addition to Home of the Year, Lancaster Homes also claimed the Bathroom of the Year, Custom Home of the Year and Kitchen of the Year awards.
“We felt a little bad for taking so many awards on the night, but I think it shows just how well the project came together,” Mr Lancaster said.
“That’s a big thanks to the design process that our company has evolved to develop.
“Right from the early stages, all the bathrooms and all the kitchens have been developed in a 3-D drawing, which then all come together in real life down the track over a year later.”
Valued between $1.5 million and $2 million, the new home caught the eye of the judges for its architecture and innovation.
“This home is bold, refined, and truly unforgettable,” HIA ACT and Southern NSW Executive Director Geordan Murray said.
“Built into a steep hillside, it’s a masterclass in architectural innovation, blending raw concrete and charred timber with elegance and purpose. Our judges were blown away by its seamless open-plan living, energy-efficient design, and the way it balances drama with liveability.
“It’s a standout example of how great design can rise to meet even the toughest challenges.
“This is a great example of the remarkable quality and workmanship available in the Riverina region and is a true credit to Lancaster Homes.”
