A 34-year-old Lake Wyangan man has been charged over the alleged theft of two torches from a Griffith hardware store after initially denying any knowledge of the incident, police allege.

Murrumbidgee Police allege two men entered the store at about 12:30 pm on Monday 27 July, with one of the men captured on CCTV taking the torches before leaving without paying.

Police allege they attended a Lake Wyangan address at about 3:55 pm last Wednesday (12 August) and spoke to a man who denied any knowledge of the alleged theft.

He asked to see the CCTV footage.

The man later attended Griffith Police Station about 2 pm on Thursday, where police showed him the footage.
