A Lake Wyangan man allegedly crashed into a tree while on a bottle shop run with an alcohol reading more than three times the legal limit.

Police allege the 21-year-old had been drinking at an address in Hanwood before getting behind the wheel at about 5:25 pm on Wednesday (9 September) to drive to a Griffith-area bottle shop.

But the alleged booze run came to an abrupt end on Yarran Street, Hanwood, when the man is reported to have veered off the road and crashed into a tree in the front yard of a house.

Witnesses called emergency services, with police and NSW Ambulance arriving shortly afterwards.

Police allege a roadside breath test returned a positive result for alcohol.

The man was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station, where a breath analysis allegedly recorded 0.185 grams of alcohol per 210 litres of breath – more than three times the legal limit for a fully licensed driver.

He was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for a high-range PCA, and his licence was suspended and confiscated on the spot.

He is due to face court in the coming weeks.
