One of karting’s premier events will arrive in Wagga in April, with some of the best young drivers in the state to compete in the NSW State Titles 1.
The event will be held at the recently renovated Wagga Wagga & Districts Kart Racing Club from 26 to 28 April. It will be the first time in 30 years the club has held the event which is expected to attract more than 500 people to the city.
“The club expects upwards of 120 karters to make the trip to Wagga for an adrenaline-fueled weekend,” Wagga & Districts Kart Racing Club president Trent Martin explained.
“This is the biggest event the club has hosted since the mid-90s, and something a lot of us here are really looking forward to.
“It’s a state title; it means a lot to so many different karters. They’ll all be racing hard for the blue plate and the number one, which they’ll get to show off on their kart for the next 12 months.
“It brings so much exposure to karting to not only Wagga but the Riverina. It will bring a lot of people to the city. The 120 karters plus their crew and family; it is a really solid event.”
Mr Martin said the weekend would be broken up into a traditional format with practice on Friday, heat races on Saturday and the final on Sunday.
“Everyone here at the club is super excited. Josh Walsh and the guys down at Wagga Wagga City Council [WWCC] have been great in trying to get this event back to Wagga.”
Karting NSW’s (KNSW) new partnership with WWCC has allowed for Wagga & Districts Kart Racing Club’s hosting of the event.
General manager of KNSW Drew Russell said he was delighted KNSW and WWCC had joined forces and was excited for the titles’ return to the region.
“Wagga Wagga offers the perfect blend of hospitality and infrastructure making it an ideal destination for karting enthusiasts from across the state,” he said.
“We look forward to showcasing the talent of our drivers and engaging with the local community through this exciting partnership.”
Wagga Mayor Dallas Tout said the partnership highlighted the city’s growing reputation as a premier destination for events and underscored council’s commitment to supporting grassroots sport and recreation.
“We are thrilled to welcome Karting NSW and the KNSW State Titles 1 to Wagga Wagga,” he said.
“We look forward to showcasing our city’s hospitality and attractions to competitors, families, and spectators throughout the event.”
The Karting NSW State Titles 1 will be held at the Wagga & Districts Kart Racing Club (156 Tasman Road Wagga Wagga) from 26 – 28 April.
