A 20-year-old provisional driver has lost his licence after he was allegedly detected travelling at 175km/h on the Burley Griffin Way on Saturday (27 December).

Police attached to Griffith Highway Patrol were conducting mobile speed enforcement on the Burley Griffin Way in Ardlethan at around 12 pm that day, where they detected a white Holden Commodore travelling in a westerly direction at a speed of 175km/h in the sign posted 100km/h speed limit area.

The driver was stopped by police where he produced a New South Wales P2 Provisional C Class licence.

When asked about his speed, police said the driver stated, “Just being an idiot”.

The driver was issued penalty notices for the offences of being a ‘Provisional P2 licence holder exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h’ and ‘Not complying with the P2 licence condition by not displaying P plates.’

These offences carry a combined penalty of $3384 and a loss of 14 demerit points (during this double demerit holiday period).

The driver’s licence was immediately suspended for a period of six months. No sanctions were placed against the vehicle’s registration as the driver was not the registered owner.

Officers are reminding all motorists that speeding is never safe and contributes to about 42 per cent of road fatalities.

“Running late is not an excuse for speeding. It is not worth risking your life and the lives of other road users,” NSW Police said.

In my opinion the car should have been inpounded for a minimum of 12 months and he should have loss his licence and not been able to get it back by an means for atleat 5 years at a minimum. You drive like that and your not just putting your own life at risk but also every other motorists as well.
