Junee Junior Rugby League Club has celebrated the opening of its new female changerooms at Loftus Oval.

The facility was funded through the NSW Government’s Stronger Community Grant Program ($346,425) and Junee Junior Rugby League Club ($20,000).

The club shared the announcement of the official opening on their Facebook page on Wednesday (31 July).

“We would like to thank our previous committee, in particular, Katrina and Jenny, for initiating this project, and our current committee, in particular Damien and Emma, for making this a reality,” the post read.

“A massive thanks also goes out to all the local trades that contributed to this project, in particular Brett Duck Builder.”

The opening was officially unveiled by Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke who said the changerooms ensured women and girls had every opportunity to excel in sports in Junee.

“The new amenities have been made possible thanks to the previous NSW Coalition government, the Junee Junior Rugby League Club, together with the generosity of local tradespeople who were determined to make the project a reality for the community,” Ms Cooke said.

“The opening of the changerooms reflects a commitment to supporting women and girls in sport, creating an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to excel,” Ms Cooke said.

“Making sure our communities have access to sporting grounds and amenities that encourage engagement and foster emerging talent is something I’ve long been passionate about, and the new female changerooms at Loftus Oval are the perfect example of this.”

Ms Cooke said with the nation rallying behind Aussie athletes at the Paris Olympics including those who grew up in the Cootamundra electorate, the opening of the new facilities in Junee was a reminder to all, to reach an Olympic level of excellence, every athlete had a start at a grassroots level.

“It’s vitally important for the government to invest in regional sporting infrastructure, to ensure that everyone, including women and girls, have the chance to participate in sport, and for the gifted athletes among us, the chance to thrive,” Ms Cooke said.

“Congratulations to all those who helped bring this project in Junee to life, including Junee Junior Rugby League president Damien Field, vice-president Mitch Sweeney, and everyone – all the mums, dads, and carers – who turn up each and every week to support junior sport right across the region,” she said.

Ms Cooke said the previous NSW Coalition government invested heavily in regional sporting grounds and amenities, especially those aimed at improving accessibility for women and girls.

“These facilities at Loftus Oval will not only improve the sporting experience for our young athletes, but will also encourage more girls to participate in sports,” Ms Cooke said.
