Wagga High School went into a short lockdown today (7 September) after two unauthorised people were reported on the school grounds.
Parents and guardians of Wagga High School students were notified by text message the school had gone into lockdown at about 11:45 am.
About 15 minutes later parents received another text from the school informing them all students and staff were safe and re-engaged in the normal school routine.
A NSW Department of Education spokesperson said the move was taken for the “safety of all staff and students”.
“Police were called and classes resumed shortly after police declared the school safe,” the spokesperson said.
“The school is communicating with parents and carers.”
Earlier the Riverina Police District said a student from another school had turned up at Wagga High School and had an argument with another student.
They were unsure why the school went into lockdown: “Somebody, somewhere hit the button, and everything just went off”.
The officer said no one was hurt and everything was fine.
