The rebuilt Jim Elphick Tennis Centre is hosting its second professional tennis tournament with some of the country’s best players taking to the high-quality courts.

The tournament features a 20-person main draw that consists of four groups of five players each. The round-robin group stages will run from Monday to Friday. All matches will be best of three tie-break sets with regular scoring.

The playoff rounds will be single elimination and consist of five draws of four players, depending on the player’s group finishing (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th) and will run from Saturday to Sunday. All matches will be best of three tie-break sets with regular scoring.

The winner will take home $3600 USD, but most importantly, ranking points, which will help players book entry into higher ranking tournaments.

The tournament marks the first UTR Pro Tennis Tour event to be held anywhere in Australia on the 2026 calendar.

Wagga Leisure Tennis Team Leader Jade Culph said hosting this event was another big sporting achievement for the city and firmly placed Wagga in the Australian and international tennis landscape.

“Hosting the first UTR Pro Tennis Tour event in Australia for 2026 is an exciting moment for tennis in Wagga Wagga and for regional NSW,” Mr Culph said.

“This is the second pro-level tennis tournament to be held at the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre since it reopened in April 2025, less than a year ago.

“It’s a major achievement to host events such as this, and it reflects the quality of our facilities and the strength of our local tennis community.”

While no players on the card are expected to take part in the Australian Open later this month, many are expected to shoot up the ranks throughout 2026.

“Having an international-standard professional tournament in our city creates incredible opportunities for players, coaches, volunteers, and fans alike,” Mr Culph said.

“It shows that world-class tennis isn’t limited to capital cities.

“Bringing the tour to Wagga Wagga represents a significant milestone for regional tennis and highlights the city’s growing reputation as a destination for high-quality sporting events.

“The tournament has attracted professional players from Australia and overseas, offering local fans a rare opportunity to witness elite-level tennis up close at the Jim Elphick Tennis Centre.”
