An afternoon and night of live music, raffles and auctions has been planned for the inaugural Big Vic Out, an event to be held at the Victoria Hotel to raise money for cancer charity Griffith Can Assist from 3 pm on Saturday (26 July).
Organiser Chad McLean – a tradie by day and singer/guitarist by night – is urging the town to get behind the event inspired by the annual big city music festival Big Day Out.
“We’re going to have seven bands playing all different types of music, a good mix of young and old,” he said.
“There’ll also be three jerseys for auction – the Canterbury Bulldogs, NSW Blues and Sydney Swans, signed by all the players.”
The 32-year-old will be playing in a few of the bands performing, including headline act the Madcoats, which also features stalwart Griffith guitarist Rob Fattore.
“We’ve been together since 2019; we are a 100 per cent pure Oz rock band. We do covers of AC/DC, Silverchair, all the good stuff.”
Emerging young group Sainty Road will also be on show. The band features two pairs of siblings, Deegon and Zephyr Byrne and Eden and Chad Gyles, along with friend Lewis Pierotti (currently overseas).
“Inspired by punk, grunge, rock, and a hint of pop, Sainty Road are known for their gripping guitar leads and dynamic drums, playing all the classics you didn’t know you needed to hear,” a band spokesperson said.
Mr McLean said he hoped to raise as much as possible for a cancer charity that spent more than $200,000 a year to support families when they needed it most.
“Because cancer is so costly, people can be traumatised by their own finances, that’s why we get the call to help,” Griffith Can Assist President Olga Forner said.
“Often they have to go to Sydney or Melbourne to see a specialist; we support them to do that … there’s a lot of other avenues in which we support them, including help with medication or a prosthesis.”
Griffith Mayor Doug Curran has also encouraged people to attend.
“All proceed are for a good cause. Get along and listen to some great music whilst supporting an extremely worthy cause,” he said.
