Woolworths has taken its love of self-service one step further in Griffith – from scanning your own groceries to now charging your own car.

Its supermarket on Binya Street in North Griffith has installed two new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, taking the overall number in the town up to 15.

EV charging stations are devices that supply electricity to recharge electric vehicle batteries, functioning as the electric equivalent of a petrol station.

Much like the majority of grocery checkouts inside the Woolies store, they operate on a self-serve basis.

Since May 2025, manufacturer Chargefox has partnered with the multinational supermarket and has installed the chargers in more than 25 locations Australia-wide.

“We’re excited to have expanded our growing EV charging network to Griffith North, and to be able to encourage EV uptake in the local community, and support visitors to the region,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.

The two dual plug 50 kW stations have been put in place with the help of a NSW Government funding grant.

Those who charge using the Chargefox app can earn points through the loyalty program Everyday Rewards, which accrue free shopping credits. Sessions can also be started with a Chargefox linked radio frequency identification (RFID) card or a credit or debit card.

The cost of charging is a $0.59 per kWh flat rate. Each station can charge a battery from 20 to 80 per cent in around 45 minutes.

There are no current plans to offer chargers at the other bigger Woolworths on Banna Avenue, but according to Visit Griffith, electric vehicles can also be charged at the following locations:
