Griffith’s Verity Christian College has appointed Margo Stone as its permanent principal, following a year in which she held the position on an interim basis.

The daughter of missionaries, Mrs Stone was born and raised in Griffith and attended Griffith High School, where she was taught by veteran educator David Fox – her predecessor as principal of Verity.

After a career in chicken farming, Mrs Stone began in education as a teacher’s aide at West Wyalong Public School before joining Verity when it opened in 2018 as Griffith’s first non-Catholic Christian school.

She quickly moved into the role of business manager before becoming interim principal when Mr Fox retired in 2025.

Following a process of prayer, discernment and review, Verity’s board unanimously affirmed her appointment this month. She was formally commissioned as principal during a whole-school chapel service at the commencement of Term 3.

“Leadership appointments are among the most important responsibilities entrusted to a school board,” board chair Steven Rand said.

“Throughout her time as interim principal, Margo has consistently demonstrated wisdom, integrity and a genuine commitment to our students, staff and families. The board is delighted to affirm her appointment and looks forward with confidence to the future of Verity Christian College under her leadership.”

While interim principal, Mrs Stone told Region she relished her role.

“You never know what you’re going to get in a day. You might have to deal with a student problem, a staff issue or you’re handling government or funding. You’re facing a myriad of things; it never stops, it’s the best job ever,” she said.

She also paid tribute to Mr Fox, who led the school from its establishment.

“I learned about his compassion for the kids and the way he set up the school so beautifully to make sure the families felt connected – that’s why it’s like a community.”

After accepting the permanent position, Mrs Stone pledged to maintain her commitment to the school and build on the foundations laid by her predecessor.

“I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the board and look forward to continuing to work alongside our dedicated staff, supportive families and wonderful students as we build on the strong foundations of our college,” she said.

Verity has grown from a school of just 16 students when it opened in 2018 to more than 140 pupils today.

The school has also undergone a structural change in 2026, moving to a primary school for Kindergarten to Year 6 and a high school for Years 7 to 12.
