A Griffith woman has been charged over the alleged theft of donated items at the Griffith Community Centre earlier this year.

On Wednesday, 28 January, a Griffith Trauma Teddies Knitting Group volunteer told police her bag containing food and personally knitted bears had been stolen from the office area.

Her group knits teddies and sends them to children in hospital, or those overseas in wartorn zones such as Gaza, to cheer them up.

Police will allege CCTV at the centre recorded a woman entering the building several times before leaving with the bag.

Following public assistance, police attended a Griffith address on Sunday (8 March) and located the woman.

Officers will allege she admitted to taking the bag. Police will also allege a small quantity of drugs and related items were found on her during the arrest.

She was taken to Griffith Police Station, where she was charged with stealing and drug-related offences. She was granted conditional bail to appear at Griffith Local Court on 22 April.

Murrumbidgee Police District thanked members of the community for their help after CCTV images were posted on social media in an attempt to identify a woman. The information provided led to the arrest.
