A Griffith woman will face local court after she was allegedly caught trying to steal a spot cleaner and other items from a Griffith department store.

At about 7:45 pm on Tuesday (29 July), the 45-year-old woman entered a shop on Banna Avenue.

Once inside the store, police will allege the woman took a spot cleaner valued at $99 from a display shelf and walked over to the self-serve cashier, where she only scanned five other items totalling $2.40.

The woman then allegedly put the spot cleaner in the trolley and made her way to the front of the store, where she was stopped by a staff member who was checking receipts.

Police were contacted and arrived a short time later and observed the 45-year-old arguing with staff.

Officers spoke with the woman and established she had an outstanding arrest warrant.

The woman was placed under arrest and taken to Griffith Police Station, where further items believed to be stolen were allegedly found in the woman’s handbag.

The woman was charged with stealing and will appear before Griffith Local Court in the near future.
