Griffith police arrest teenager after alleged break-ins at dental surgery, auto business

Griffith police have arrested a 16-year-old boy after a string of alleged break-ins in town throughout August.

Officers have been undertaking Operation Regional Mongoose, which targets serious property-related crime committed predominantly by young offenders.

Police had been investigating a series of incidents in Griffith, including:

  • The alleged break-in of a business on Kooyoo Street, Griffith, at about 3 am Saturday 16 August by three people who allegedly stole cash before leaving in an allegedly stolen 2006-model gold Kia Carnival. The vehicle was subsequently found on fire.
  • The alleged break-in of an auto business on Farronato Road shortly before 1 am on Friday 22 August, where three people allegedly took keys to several vehicles including a 2020 model white Ford Ranger utility. The ute was later found burnt out.
  • The alleged break-and-enter of a dental surgery on Noorebar Avenue, Griffith, about 10 am on Sunday 24 August, where CCTV footage allegedly captured three people inside the business.

Following inquiries, police attended a home in Griffith last week and arrested a 16-year-old boy. He was taken to Griffith Police Station where he was charged with seven offences, including:

  • Aggravated break and enter of a dwelling etc in company to steal (two counts)
  • Being carried in a conveyance taken without the consent of the owner
  • Damage of property by fire/explosion
  • Stealing a motor vehicle.

He was refused bail to appear before a Children’s Court on 27 October.
