A man in Griffith who was stopped for riding his bike without a helmet has allegedly been found to have drugs in his possession and will face court next month.

About 7:30 am on Saturday (2 May), police were conducting patrols in the southern part of the town when they saw a man riding a grey mountain bike without a helmet.

Officers stopped him on Middleton Avenue and spoke to him.

Police quickly established he was currently subject to strict bail conditions and a curfew.

Officers will allege they observed the man to have a large amount of green vegetable matter in plastic bags within a satchel.

Police will further allege a search of the man located clear resealable plastic bags containing multiple smaller clear resealable bags filled with green vegetable matter believed to be cannabis.

Officers also found several $50 notes. Police will also allege the man was carrying several unused clear resealable bags and a small gold set of weight scales.

Police weighed the green vegetable matter believed to be cannabis, which totalled 37.6 grams, and a clear resealable bag containing white crystal believed to be methylamphetamine (ice), which weighed 1.5 grams.

The man was subsequently charged with breaching bail, possessing prohibited drugs and possessing goods suspected of being stolen. He was given conditional bail to attend Griffith Local Court on 3 June.
