A 68-year-old Griffith man had to be rescued after becoming stuck up to his knees in mud while walking along the foreshore of Lake Wyangan.
The man was visiting the southern park area of the lake with his carer on Wednesday afternoon (5 August) when he mistakenly stepped into a particularly boggy section of the foreshore.
With the lake at a lower-than-normal level, the man sank into the mud up to his knees.
His carer and other staff attempted to free him but were unsuccessful, prompting a call to Griffith Police and the activation of the NSW State Emergency Service (SES).
SES volunteers were able to successfully extricate the man from the mud.
The incident is another reminder of the hazards posed by exposed and boggy areas around the lake as water levels fall.
A big shout-out goes to the SES volunteers who give their time to perform vital work in the Griffith community during emergencies and times of crisis.
