Griffith man charged with assault after allegedly punching employee in the face

A Griffith man has been charged with assault after allegedly punching the employee of a licensed premises in the face at the weekend.

District Inspector Glenn Smith told Region the alleged incident occurred around 5:25 pm on Sunday (16 March).

A 31-year-old Griffith man entered the Banna Avenue venue and allegedly became verbally aggressive towards an employee and other staff members.

The employee allegedly felt threatened, intimidated and concerned for other staff members.

The staff member asked the man to leave the premises, which he did, via a rear exit.

Once outside, the man allegedly became increasingly agitated and walked up to the victim and began pushing him.

The man then allegedly assaulted the staff member by punching him in the face.

At this time, an off-duty police officer intervened and the man was taken to the ground. On-duty police attended, handcuffing and arresting the man.

He was taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged with assault, stalking and intimidation.
