A Griffith homeowner was allegedly forced to chase three intruders from his bedroom in the early hours of Saturday morning after the trio snuck into his Taylor Road property while he slept.

At about 9:30 pm on Friday (8 May), the homeowner prepared for bed and made sure his front screen door and front door were locked before heading to the garage and closing the door.

However, about 3:30 am the following morning, CCTV allegedly captured three unknown people climbing over the front gate and entering the property.

The three were later allegedly seen entering through a garage door that had not fully closed before entering the home and allegedly stealing car keys, a garage remote and a wallet.

The trio then entered the owner’s bedroom, waking him up, police allege.

The homeowner allegedly chased them out of the bedroom, through the dining room and kitchen, and back out through the garage before calling triple zero.

Police arrived a short time later and have obtained CCTV footage of the unknown people as investigations continue.

Murrumbidgee Police District is reminding residents to remain vigilant about securing their homes and vehicles following an increase in reported stealing incidents.

Police said there had recently been a rise in cases where owners had left vehicles unlocked or with keys still inside.

Residents are also being urged to double-check all external doors, including front, rear and garage doors, before going to bed.

Police said they often received CCTV footage showing offenders attempting to open car and house doors and moving on when they found them locked.

Anyone with information relating to recent stealing incidents is urged to contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
