A 19-year-old man from Sydney allegedly tried to hide a stash of drugs in his underpants while entering a Griffith music festival.

Plainclothes police were conducting proactive patrols outside the entrance to the triple J One Night Stand festival at about 3:50 pm on Saturday 5 September, when officers allegedly noticed a man from Newtown and two other males acting suspiciously.

Police allege the trio appeared to notice a police detection dog and uniformed officers before trying to evade them.

Plainclothes officers followed the three men to the male toilets at City Park, where police allege they later saw the 19-year-old leaving the toilets and placing something down the front of his pants.

Police stopped the man and asked him to produce the item.

According to police, he pulled a brown hessian bag from his underwear and handed it to officers.

Police allege the bag contained 3.03 grams of mushrooms containing psilocybin, 1.24 grams of ketamine and a cannabis leaf joint weighing 0.82 grams.

When asked if he had any other prohibited drugs, police allege the man reached into his right pants pocket and produced a cigarette packet containing a rolled cannabis joint.

The alleged drugs were seized.

The man was charged with three counts of possessing a prohibited drug and issued a Field Court Attendance Notice.

He is due to appear at Griffith Local Court on 30 September.

The alleged drug detection was one of nine made by police during the sold-out One Night Stand festival, which attracted about 12,000 people to the Griffith Showground on Saturday. Police had 16 officers rostered for the event, including a drug-detection dog, with three people also ejected for their behaviour. Despite the incidents, police said the festival was otherwise trouble-free.
